Ipswich Blades kicked off their campaign in style this afternoon at Sudbury hosted by Woodland Colts FC - a 14-0 win to the Blades. After a delayed start of some 20 mins due to the pitch not being playable due to holes ,the Blades started with plenty of possession. It wasn't long before Matty scored after a fantastic ball crossed in from a corner by Lee.
Joe and Aiden were up to tricks down the wing and after a lovely run from Joe, he was denied by the Colts impressive keeper who seemed to have magnets on his gloves! Only minutes later the ball was picked up by Liam who had a super shot on target, again denied by the Colts' keeper. Lee then crossed the ball in and hit the woodwork - the posts were becoming a problem ! George, Joe, Clint and Aiden were also doing some good tackles at the back and were, at times in the first half, under a little pressure from the Colts. The blades midfield was working well and AJ and Shqipdon were reclaiming the ball at every opportunity! Minutes before the half-time whistle Matty hit the infamous crossbar and Will came from nowhere down the wing at high speed and crossed the ball to Liam who took a shot it was defected by the Colts for a corner. Will took the corner, there was a frantic "fracas" of bodies in the box and Ben did a wonderful volley and slotted the ball home for a 2-0 lead before half time.
online furniture store Play was resumed after blisters had been attended too and plenty of refreshments taken on board on what turned out to be a really sunny afternoon. It wasn't long before Will scored after a super ball set up for him, again by Liam. Matty was taking a corner shortly after and Ben sent a lovely ball into the back of the net, taken very professionally. Minutes later, another "fracas" of bodies in the box and lo and behold, yet another goal for the Blades, this time slotted home with pace by Aiden. Another corner came quickly and Matty sent a brilliant header straight into the goal.
Colts were by now looking tired, it was a hot afternoon and we were lucky to have substituted a few players by this time and given some tired legs a rest. The home side seemed to be suffering but never giving up. We were denied some 10 goals plus by some tip-top goal-keeping by the Colts goalie.
Will shortly got hold of the ball and with an almighty thump sent it towards goal and it rebounded off the side of the post and went in - their keeper was helpless with that one ! Minutes later, yet another corner and Reece slotted the ball home at pace. It was Chris's turn next as he charged up the line and sent the ball just over the crossbar. A corner was taken shortly after this and Lee sent the ball into the back of the net. The defenders were getting brave now and it wasn't long before Joe scored a very good goal, George then slotted one home after a short corner, Aiden went on to score and then Clint proudly put one in the back of the net to end the game.
Our goalie, Dave had very little to do in either half but when called upon showed the utmost professionalism and his towering presence is a force to be reckoned with!
It was a good all round performance from the Blades and the new team seems to be gelling well together. Onwards and upwards lads ...................
